Description | Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision, with considerable responsibility, and according to established guidelines and lesson plans, the Childcare Teacher provides developmentally appropriate care and supervision to an assigned group of children. The Childcare Teacher will implement age appropriate curriculum, establish and maintain supportive relationships with children and parents, model appropriate childcare practices for student parents, and perform related work as required.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED (at least 18 years of age)
Associates in Early Childhood Education or CDA preferred
Bilingual preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of early childhood development and appropriate practices for infants, toddlers, and young children
- Must be able to nurture, care for, and educate young children
- Knowledge of integrated curriculum development and implementation
- Must be able to take initiative
- Must be able to interact with parents in a professional manner and elicit the trust necessary to handle daily communication with parents effectively
- Knowledge of principles of observation and assessment of young children
- Must be able to supervise a group of children while attending to the immediate needs of one child
Minimum Experience:
At least 6 months experience working with young children preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Continuously supervise children to ensure their health and safety
- Plan, adapt, schedule, and implement age appropriate curriculum and assessments involving various activities to stimulate children’s cognitive skills, abilities, and development
- Ensure that appearance, cleanliness, and safe environment of site (rooms, centers, play areas) is appropriately maintained; setup rooms and areas for various activities such as lunch, naps, games, etc.
- Accurately complete all site paperwork, i.e., daily notes, student accident reports, attendance records
- Maintain daily documentation on all aspects of site and children’s behavior and activities; monitor behavioral patterns and develop child portfolios.
- Act as a role model to student parents; educate and inform student parents of important information regarding their child’s development
- Schedule parents conferences to discuss children’s development and concerns; work with family to devise learning and development strategies as needed
- Order supplies and materials for classroom use as needed.
- Present a professional attitude including ethical and responsible behaviors.
- Maintain knowledge of children’s intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and character development and the field of early childhood development.
- Convey a sense of integrity and warmth and a genuine caring for the development of each child.
- Maintain confidentiality for parents, children, staff and management.
- Meet all state and district requirements for the position including maintaining required training hours.

- Must be able to lift and carry children up to at least 50 pounds
- Sit, walk, stand, stoop, and bend on a frequent basis
- Must be able to stoop, getting on the children’s level, and move quickly enough to protect children
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
- Interpret policy, procedures and data
- Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases
- Maintain emotional control under stress
