BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: Implement the special education appraisal process. Assess the educational, behavioral, learning styles, and program needs of students referred for special education services. Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs and services, including counseling and behavior management to students with emotional disabilities.

Instructional Management:
- Support the implementation, monitoring and/or evaluation of assigned programs for elementary and secondary education, curriculum, and/or instructional support, and ensure that assigned programs are efficiently and effectively administered.
- Support and participate in meeting the objectives of the campus/department improvement plans.
Student Management:
- Plan and manage a program of psychological services, including psychological counseling for students and parents of special educations students.
- Conduct, score, and interpret comprehensive individual assessments of students referred for special education placement, including comprehensive assessment of emotional/behavioral factors and other conditions related to learning.
- Participate in the development of individual educational plans and/or behavior management plan including follow- up and reevaluation.
- Consult with teachers, support professional personnel, parents, and community agencies concerning prevention and/or intervention strategies relating to learning and behavioral problems of students.
- Meet with parents to discuss pertinent background information and test results.
- Consult with teachers and relevant staff concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data.
- Assist campuses in resolving parent/student issues and concerns in a timely manner.
- Assist in managing student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Serve as case manager and implement the special education assessment process for students on assigned campuses, as needed.
- Conduct group, individual, and family counseling sessions and facilitative therapy for students with diagnosed problems.
- Consult with psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and community agencies concerning intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of students as needed.
- Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
Management of Administrative, Fiscal and/or Facilities Functions:
- Coordinate or participate the Admission, Review, Dismissal (ARD) meetings, including document preparation/review, scheduling with all parties such as parents, principals, teachers and support staff, and implement agreed upon changes.
- Serve as a liaison for special education services between administrators, parents, and teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required for all areas of responsibility, including maintenance of student schedules as necessary.
- Attend meetings as requested by supervisor.
- Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
- Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the district and campus.
- Assist in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.
- Coordinate departmental activities with other District offices and administrators and provide assistance to requesting departments.
- Follow District and department policies and procedures.
- Serve as consultant on mental health topics for instructors in the school health program.
- Provide staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel with identification and understanding of students with emotional, social, and behavioral disturbances.
Organization Improvement:
- Analyze critical needs in assigned areas and work collaboratively to implement and improve programs.

Texas Academic Performance Indicators and Campus Performance Objectives:
- Support the administration of state-mandated testing at campuses in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Monitor and review campus test data and use findings to assist with planning corrective action for the affected group of students and/or campuses.
School/Community Relations:
- Articulate the district/campus mission and goals to the community and solicit support in realizing the mission.
- Interface with governmental agencies, business and civic organizations, and the community to provide needed information and to promote the District’s initiatives.
Organization Morale:
- Foster positive morale by participating in team building activities and the decision-making process.
- Communicate and collaborate with campus/department staff to enhance service delivery, program development, and customer satisfaction.
Other Responsibilities:
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to State Board of Education and local Board policy.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, licensure by the Texas State Board of Examiners and Psychologists as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology, and two year experience providing psychology services in an educational environment.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Maintain emotional control under stress.

- Travel district wide frequently and statewide occasionally.
- Work extended and irregular hours.
- Sit for extended periods of time.
- Use computer for prolonged period resulting in repetitive hand motions.
- Lift and/or carry up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
- Lift and/or transfer students to and from wheelchair and/or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities occasionally.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior office work environment with little or no exposure to physical risk.
*Note: An LSSP must have a minimum of three years of experience providing psychological services in the public school to provide supervision of an intern or trainee.
