BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY:  Under the direction of the Executive Director of Communications and Community Relations, leads strategies for the selection, implementation, management and maintenance of the District’s brand content on all websites and mobile communications app in an accurate, accessible and timely manner. Creates graphics design and related publications district-wide. Trains and supports department and campus Communications Liaisons. Assists with the coordination and implementation of the district's public relations, media relations, communications and community relations efforts.

Management of Administrative, Fiscal and/or Facilities Functions:

  • Assists leadership in selecting and evaluating an effective content management system, website design and host provider to meet the needs of all departments and campuses.
  • Maintains, updates and supports all content on district website and campus websites to increase effective communication between the District and its stakeholders and in such a way to ensure functionality including but not limited to hyperlinks, embedded documents, video and other media in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Manages, updates and supports all content on the District’s Staff Intranet site.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with central office and campus Communications Liaisons to deliver content that reflects a unified district brand, message and tone.
  • Develops reports, materials and resources for central office and campus Communications Liaisons.
  • Designs and conducts training and provides support to central office and Communications Liaisons.
  • Monitors district and campus website content to ensure ADA compliance and addresses accessibility errors.
  • Maintains, converts and optimizes published documents for online use.
  • Creates and reviews metrics to monitor and analyze website traffic statistics for periodic reporting and review of content effectiveness.
  • Optimizes web architecture for navigability (browser and mobile platforms).
  • Assists the Technology Department to ensure data integrity and security.
  • Responds to public inquiries pertaining to district and campus websites and directs them to the appropriate information on the website and routes incoming calls and email to the appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Assists with maintaining all license information, documentation and allocation for web infrastructure, design, development, hardware and software.
  • Provides training and support to central office and campus staff for the operation of the mass notification system.
  • Posts news, announcements and emergency notifications.
  • Available via telephone or email as needed to ensure district and campus websites contain accurate emergency information, including monitoring of the District’s website and social media accounts during an emergency.
  • Manages content and supports the functionality of the District’s mobile communication app.
  • Assists with department and campus projects as assigned.
  • Maintains knowledge of the latest industry trends and developments and seeks additional training when possible

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Analyze critical needs in assigned areas and work collaboratively to implement and improve programs.
  • Participate in professional development that increases effectiveness and improves District performance.
  • Interface with governmental agencies, business and civic organizations, and the community as required to provide needed information and to promote the District's initiatives.
  • Foster positive morale by participating in team building activities and the decision-making process.
  • Communicate and collaborate with campus/department staff to enhance service delivery, program development, and customer satisfaction.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to State Board of Education and local Board policy.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:  Provide guidance and direction as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Best practices and current trends in web technologies, website design and functionality, mobile and responsive design.
  • HTML, CSS, Javascript, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Wordpress, and other Apple-based and Windows-based web development and graphic design programs, word processing, spreadsheet, and other related communication software packages.
  • Internet infrastructure and practices.
  • Graphic design, layout, web design, and desktop/electronic publishing principles.
  • Creating a website that communicates district goals, vision, and initiatives, including developing style sheets, templates and guidelines for web pages.
  • Specialized software knowledge in design software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Creativity and the ability to turn artistic concepts into artwork and publications.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing, including an exceptional command of grammar, mechanics, proofreading and editing.
  • Communication and collaboration between and among various areas of the organization to support high student achievement and customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of district policies and procedures.

 

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in web design and development, communications, journalism, desktop publishing and/or electronic publishing and two years of related experience.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:  Bilingual (Spanish).

 

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.

  • Lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Travel district wide frequently and statewide occasionally.
