BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY:  Support the Systems Administrator in installing, configuring, monitoring, and managing, the district infrastructure.  Work with the infrastructure team in a manner that ensures the effective operation of department resources in order to provide a high level of efficiency.  Troubleshoot and diagnose issues at all levels of infrastructure, from cabling (copper and fiber) to the programming of switches, routers, wireless devices, voice, and video projection systems.  Install, modify, repair, and maintain voice, video, data and cabling systems in existing and new facilities. Professionals at this level must be self-starters who require minimal direction and have an emphasis in general networking, WAN/LAN design and management.

Management of Administrative, Fiscal and/or Facilities Functions:

  • Design, install, configure, maintain, and oversee Local Area Networks. This includes file servers, workstations, and related administrative and instructional software.
  • Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and connectivity such as switches, routers, wireless devices, Voice over IP (VoIP) equipment, and cabling.
  • Physically install and terminate copper and fiber structured cable distribution systems.
  • Installation of outlets, pulling cable, fire stopping and pre-termination including organizing, forming, dressing, and labeling cables to industry standards.
  • Accurately test copper and fiber (multimode and single mode) cables to required certification parameters utilizing appropriate test equipment as required and document results
  • Diagnose and correct copper and optical fiber problems.
  • Perform site surveys, read and use blueprints and floor plans and conduct visual site inspections. Document drop locations.
  • Provide support and act as a resource person for faculty, staff and students.
  • Use established tracking system to log requests; monitor progress, track problem resolution, identify patterns of failure, research bug fixes and implement solutions; communicate with System Administrator regarding unresolved problems.
  • Utilize software and hardware network management tools for problem isolation and resolution.
  • Provide diagnosis and problem resolution of network issues.
  • Keep abreast of current and upcoming technology and standards to enhance operations.
  • Provide technical support to customers (teachers and staff) and colleagues on a daily basis.
  • Perform various administrative functions as needs occur, i.e.: create documentation on configurations, etc.
  • Monitors and maintains network documentation, network material and supply inventories.
  • Research, analyze, and develop numerous hardware compatibility issues and determine the best implementation for our existing system.
  • Evaluates, tests, and implements network software and hardware.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

BS Degree in Computer Information Systems, or

High School diploma and 4-6 years of related experience

CCNA, Network+, MCP, Panduit certifications preferred
