BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY
Provide student participants with appropriate learning activities and enrichment experiences in an afterschool setting, helping them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Strategies
1.Develop lesson plans that support the district’s curriculum program.
- Assist in the preparation of lessons that reflect accomodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of student participants.
- Work cooperatively with special education and esl teachers to modify curricula as needed for participants with special needs.
- Work with other members of the school staff to determine instructional goals, objectives and methods for individual students according to district requirements.
- Plan and supervise assignments of tutors, site assistants and volunteers.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
Student Growth and Development
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through classroom observations and informal testing.
- Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
Management and Organization
- Work with campus staff to identify and recruit program participants.
- Create a program environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Communication
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, coordinators, and teachers.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in staff development activities and ACE Coordinator meetings to improve job-related skills.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
Supervision
- Be present for and actively monitor all program activities.
- Advise tutors, site assistants, and volunteers on prefered teaching methods and strategies for working with students.
EXPERIENCE:
At least one year teaching experience preferred

Personal computer, printer, copier, fax machine, shredder
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
General knowledge of core academic subject areas
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to supervise students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university in Education or a related field
Valid Texas teaching certificate preferred
