BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY:  Provide Security/Night Watchman duties by patrolling the District after hours/weekends- to minimize vandalism; checking facilities to ensure buildings are secure/locked/security systems properly activated; communicate with- and provide access as needed to Law-Enforcement/Fire Departments; make initial repairs at facilities to prevent extensive damage from unexpected breakage or vandalism.

Support of Administrative, Fiscal and/or Facilities Functions:

  • Patrol assigned area on foot, in assigned motor vehicle, or other specialized vehicle to ensure personal and building safety.
  • Examine doors, windows, and gates to ensure safety; use keys to open and close buildings; monitor closed buildings for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activities.
  • Supervise and monitor the interior and exterior of school buildings after school to ensure the safety and welfare of students and staff and to ensure the security of school facilities and assets.
  • Watch for and report irregularities, such as facility and safety hazards, and emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, as required.
  • Remain alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security violators; approach suspicion persons and /or notifies police as appropriate; may confront and/or detain violators, as required, until police arrive.
  • Perform periodic cheeks of fire alarm systems, motion sensor systems and lights to ensure proper functioning; reports malfunctions as required.
  • Patrol and monitor assigned parking areas to provide public safety and assistance.
  • Prepare routine, standardized reports.
  • Inspect: building exterior and interior; playgrounds; grounds; perform minor repairs as result of vandalism, breakage after-hours, equipment failure/running toilets/water-fountains, irrigation system failures, etc.
  • Make initial minor repairs at facilities to prevent extensive damage from running water, broken windows, damaged locks, clean smoke-detector heads (with vacuum cleaner)- to restore fire-alarm systems to normal condition, etc….
  • Detect and report major lighting/security repairs needed on building structures and their systems.
  • Drive throughout District on a nightly/weekend basis- to ensure facilities are kept and maintained in a secure manner.
  • Respond to Fire/Burglar alarm/trouble calls from the monitoring company- Master Burglar Alarm.
  • Make non-scheduled/random appearances/monitoring of facilities during nightly/weekend inspections. Weekly/weekend schedule to vary- based on need/activities- no set daily schedule.
  • Lock, unlock, and secure gates at all hours of the night/weekend- as needed from scheduled events.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Correct unsafe/unsecure conditions at the facilities- and immediately report any conditions that are not quickly correctable to the Grounds Manager/Director.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in order to perform preventive/short-term maintenance repairs as required to maintain security of the facilities.
  • Contact Law-enforcement Agencies to assist with after-hours situations/concerns.
  • Provide assistance to campuses/departments as requested.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:  High school diploma or equivalent and valid Texas driver’s license with a clear driving record.
