BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: Serves as the director of a licensed childcare facility and oversees the daily planning, management and supervision of the childcare center. Ensures that all parent, child, and staff needs/concerns are appropriately addressed.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to take initiative
  • Must be able to interact with parents in a professional manner and elicit the trust. necessary to handle daily communication with parents effectively.
  • Knowledge of planning and implementing lesson plans.
  • Proficient with computer applications including email, Google, Eleyo and others as needed.
  • Working knowledge of Texas Minimum Standards and Texas Rising Star.

 ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school diploma or GED (at least 18 years of age)
  • At least 3 years experience working in a licensed childcare setting
  • Child Care Administrator credential or ability to obtain one; Child Care Development Associate Credential (CDA) preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Supervise site staff and provide feedback as needed. 
  2. Accept and respect differences in children, parents and coworkers. 
  3. Be familiar with all aspects of the site budget to ensure that all resources are managed effectively and within budgetary constraints. Assist the Childcare Programs Manager with drafting new budgets each year.
  4. Screen all potential enrollment contracts for accuracy, tag contracts properly and reach out to families when corrections are needed. 
  5. Complete all required paperwork and record keeping on a timely basis and maintain the same in an organized up-to-date manner. This includes all center files, i.e., student, health and safety, sign in/out logs, attendance records, third party billing, and grants.
  6. Prepare documentation for children’s files on therapist’s recommendation as needed. 
  7. Responsible for keeping disenrolled customers to a minimum; determine reasons for disenrollments and address problem areas which contribute to student turnover, confer with the Childcare Programs Manager and Director of Community Relations to correct problem areas.
  8. Assists the Childcare Programs Manager with drafting all compliance reports, including state, federal and BISD reports.
  9. Assists the Childcare Programs Manager to identify and qualify all PRS students for school, state, city, county, and PEIMS program enrollment.
  10. Assist the Childcare Programs Manager in interviewing potential staff and orienting new staff to site operations and procedures. 
  11. Ensure site compliance with all federal and state laws, Texas Minimum Standards, Texas Rising Star qualifications, as well as BISD, Community Relations and site policies and procedures.
  12. Plan and actively participate in all site activities including sitewide events that foster positive relationships with families. 
  13. Oversee the physical condition of the building, its contents, playground area, and outside grounds ensuring appearance, cleanliness and safety of the site is appropriately maintained; recommend repair work as needed to the Childcare Programs Manager.
  14. Ensure that quality control of programs is sound and meets all state, BISD and Texas Rising Star requirements.
  15. Complete quality checks and report concerns to the Childcare Programs Manager within a specified time frame. 
  16. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all school authorities, state licensing authorities, Texas Rising Star mentors, approved vendors, and community contacts.
  17. Develop and maintain professional working relationships with all site staff and other district personnel.
  18. Respond and follow-up on all enrollment inquiries and give prospective customers tours of the facility and detailed information about BISD’s philosophy, programs, and procedures.
  19. Develop and actively maintain positive communication with parents using Class Dojo and other forms of communication. 
  20. Recognize parent concerns, evaluate course of action, confer with Childcare Programs Manager and respond professionally to the needs of the parents; ensure that the staff is aware of specific parent concerns so that problems are resolved.
  21. Provide parent assistance, training and support as needed. 
  22. Monitor staff training hours to help ensure that all staff are properly trained and meet annual training requirements. 
  23. Help develop staff through career growth and guidance, including evaluation of all staff along with Childcare Programs Manager via written performance appraisal on a yearly basis.
  24. Anticipate staffing needs, prepare and post weekly staffing schedules and modify them accordingly depending upon children’s attendance in each classroom and age grouping, maximizing state staffing ratios to allow for financial viability of the site.
  25. Counsel staff on performance issues; follow all BISD guidelines for disciplinary action procedures.
  26. Confer with the Childcare Programs Manager on all staff performance issues and documentation of the same.
  27. Train staff to plan and implement creative and developmentally appropriate programs for all children including those with special needs; ensure that lesson plans are completed in a timely manner. 
  28. Attend bi-weekly site supervisor meetings to discuss center progress, needs, concerns and staff issues; hold quarterly meetings with site staff to share updates on classroom operations.   
  29. Meet all state requirements for the position. 
  30. Accepts temporary work assignments including covering in classrooms for staff absences. 

EXPERIENCE:  Experience working with children in a licensed child care setting.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:  Supervision of all child development center staff

 

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to lift and carry children up to at least 35 pounds
  • Must be able to stoop, getting on the children’s level, and move quickly enough to protect children
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including all digital platforms 
  • Interpret policy, procedures and data
  • Maintain emotional control under stress and present a professional demeanor in all instances
