BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: Perform on-site technical work to install and maintain computer equipment and network and software applications throughout the district with limited supervision. Respond to work order requests by diagnosing and repairing network and computer hardware. Applicant must have strong customer service skills.

Management of Administrative, Fiscal and/or Facilities Functions:

  • Install and upgrade computers, mobile devices, and peripherals throughout the district
  • Relocate computer hardware, peripherals, mobile devices, and equipment as needed
  • Install and configure software as needed
  • Diagnose and repair equipment, including printers, mobile devices, and personal computers
  • Uses established tracking system to log requests; Monitor progress, track problem resolution, identify patterns of failure, research bug fixes and implement solutions; Communicate with IT Operations Manager regarding unresolved problems

  • Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service
  • Keep abreast of current and upcoming technology and standards to enhance operations
  • Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing and carrying
  • Handle multiple projects with rapidly changing priorities and deadlines
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of computer workstation setup (various systems i.e. PC, Apple, Linux, etc.)
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications (various systems i.e. PC, Apple, Linux, etc.)
  • Knowledge of computer mobile devices (various systems i.e. Apple, Android, Windows, etc.)
  • Ability to install, maintain, and repair computers and peripherals, including printers, scanners, and presentation devices
  • Ability to install and maintain network cables and hardware
  • Ability to diagnose problems and perform repairs

 

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED; 3-5 years of experience in an IT support role; MTA, MCA, A+, network+, or equivalent certification in relevant programs preferred

 

EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Hand tools
  • Test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations
  • Personal computers and peripherals

 

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Climbing, stooping, bending, and kneeling; frequent use of small hand tools and electronic test equipment
  • Frequent districtwide travel
  • Occasional prolonged irregular hours
  • May be required to be on call 24 hours a day
  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Work with frequent interruptions
  • Use computer for prolonged period resulting in repetitive hand motions
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally

 

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

  • Work is normally performed in both indoor and outdoor environments
  • Work involves frequent exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards
