BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Career Center.

 

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED

 

EXPERIENCE: Three to four years of related work experience, preferably in a public education environment

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of computer operations
  • Proficient skills in typing, word processing, and file maintenance
  • Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Awareness and ability to access resources

Student Support:

  • Meet and assist persons coming into and calling the Career Center.
  • Order and maintain supplies and equipment for the Career Center.
  • Assist students with scholarship information, college applications, financial aid, NCAA information, Early College enrollment, and other career-related information.
  • Help students to complete online college, FAFSA, and scholarship applications.
  • Conduct an online career inventory for every eighth grade student and all interested high school students on a yearly basis.
  • Inform students, staff, and parents about the career center resources through print, e-mail, and the district website.
  • Assist with the annual BISD Career Fair and schedule college visitations.
  • Assist in locating college and career resources.
  • Order and maintain current career and college information in the Career Center.
  • Attend career interest meetings with ACC and other Austin organizations.
  • Prepare materials and schedule outside speakers for advisory clusters.
  • Maintain all pertinent records for the career center.
  • Work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, so that the Career Center is open and available for students and parents.
  • Ensure confidentiality at all times.
  • Keep informed of and comply with all state and district policies and regulations
  • concerning primary job functions.
  • Articulate the district’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  • Project a positive image to the school and the community.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Tools/Equipment Used: computer, typewriter, printer, fax, and copier
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Sit or Stand for extended periods of time
  • Use computer for prolonged period resulting in repetitive hand motions
  • Lift and/or move up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
