BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: Provide leadership and oversight for the administration, coordination, and direction of the District’s PK-12 teaching and learning programming. Responsible for the development and sustainability of an equitable and highly effective instructional program.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

  • Master’s degree in Educational Administration or Curriculum and Instruction from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate

 

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Ability to coordinate district function
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:

  • Minimum three years successful classroom teaching experience
  • Minimum two years successful campus principal experience (secondary experience preferred)

Instructional and Program Management:

  • Provide administrative leadership in the development and coordination of school and instructional programs.
  • Coordinate teaching and learning services to meet students’ needs grades PK-12.
  • Collaborate with other directors in the coordination of school leadership levels meetings.
  • Provide leadership for advanced academics, academic MTSS, and LOTE and report progress towards goals, objectives and initiatives for the program.
  • Stay abreast of current trends for the delivery of teaching and learning and instructional supports and strategies.
  • Works with alternative programs and special education to promote articulation with mainstream curriculum.
  • Oversee all aspects of early childhood education, including the District’s full-day PK program and House Bill 3 requirements.
  • Prepare programs, policies, and procedures that will enhance learning, improve effectiveness, and increase efficiency in schools.
  • Apply research and data to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching-learning process.
  • Work with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents for all subjects/contents and other areas based on systematic review and analysis.
  • Assist and direct school leaders in the development of specific plans to meet identified school and district goals.
  • Provide onsite support and assistance to campus principals. Work with principals to review and analyze assessment data for the purpose of improving teaching and student learning.
  • Participate in the district-level decision-making process to establish and review the district’s goals and objectives and major classroom instructional programs of the district.
  • Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance objectives.
  • Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness.
  • Secure consultants, specialists, and other community resources to assist principals and instructional staff in attaining objectives.
  • Support in the planning, development, and implementation of the District’s comprehensive professional development program for instructional staff and administrators.
  • Consult and collaborate with school leaders to ensure Advanced Academics programming is appropriately addressed in School Performance Planning and Goal Setting.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Accountability and Compliance in the development of common assessment practices and pacing across teachers with common curriculum.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Career, College and Military Readiness in the development of course outlines for newly approved courses and programs.
  • Coordinates the review and selection of high-quality instructional materials to meet district, state, and federal educational standards.

 

Policy, Reports, and Law:

  • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in curriculum and instruction area.
  • Compile, maintain, and present all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

 

Budget:

  • Develop the Teaching and Learning Department’s budget and ensure that programs are cost effective and funds are managed prudently.
  • Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  • Personnel Management:
  • Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions in the Curriculum and Instruction Department.
  • Evaluate job performance of assigned employees to ensure effectiveness.
  • Assist with recruitment, selection, and training of personnel and make sound recommendations relative to personnel placement, assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal. Assist with the implementation of the designated teacher appraisal system.

 

Communication:

  • Provide for two-way communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community as it relates to elementary education and advanced academics.
  • Demonstrate skill in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, staff, and community.
  • Monitor professional research and disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.

 

Community Relations:

  • Articulate the district’s mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicit its support in realizing the district's mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  • Demonstrate use of appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assist in the supervision and evaluations of coaches, specialists, support and clerical staff within the Curriculum and Instruction Department.
