BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: Direct and manage the overall program of extracurricular and intramural athletics throughout the high school feeder pattern assigned. Work to provide each student with opportunity to participate in an

extracurricular athletic activity and ensure compliance with all state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and local requirements.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program
  • Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing athletics
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel and coordinate feeder pattern functions
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills 

 

Experience:

  • Five years successful teaching and coaching experience preferred

Management of Administrative, Fiscal and/or Facilities Functions:

 

Program Planning:

  • Direct and manage HS feeder pattern athletic program and facilities.
  • Establish physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport, and verify each athlete’s eligibility within HS feeder pattern.
  • Maintain an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development.
  • Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge athletic program effectiveness throughout HS feeder pattern and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.
  • Plan necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of HS feeder pattern athletic and academic goals.

 

Athletic Events:

  • Prepare and approve all interscholastic game schedules for the HS feeder pattern.
  • Arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town athletic events for HS feeder pattern.
  • Manage HS feeder pattern athletic operations by directing ticket sales, employing game officials and ensuring preparation of facilities.
  • Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all athletic equipment within HS feeder pattern.
  • Coordinate the use of all athletic facilities within HS feeder pattern by non-school groups in conjunction with Department of Athletics.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise all athletic awards programs within HS feeder pattern.

 

Student Management:

  • Implement District student management policies, communicate expected student behavior related to athletics, and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting meetings on vital issues with parents, students, and teachers.

  

Policy, Reports, and Law:

  • Implement the policies established by federal law, state law, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and local board policy in area of athletics.
  • Compile, maintain, file, and present all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

 

Budget and Inventory:

  • Administer the athletic budget and ensure that programs are cost effective and that funds are managed prudently throughout the HS feeder pattern.
  • Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs within HS feeder pattern.
  • Initiate purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.
  • Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment within HS feeder pattern and recommend disposal and replacement of equipment when necessary.
  • Approve and forward purchase orders for athletic programs in HS feeder pattern to accounting department. 

Human Resource Management:

  • Recruit, select, train, and supervise all athletic personnel and make sound recommendations about personnel placement, assignments, retention, discipline, and dismissal within HS feeder pattern.
  • Evaluate job performance of HS feeder pattern coaches to ensure effectiveness.
  • Develop training options and/or improvement plans for coaches within HS feeder pattern to ensure exemplary operation in area of athletics.

 

Organization Improvement/Morale:

  • Actively strives to find ways for HS Feeder patterns to improve in both areas of Academics and Athletics.
  • Plan meetings for Athletic staff of HS Feeder patterns in finding ways to improve and continually build program pride and morale.

 

Professional Growth and Development:

  • Attend clinics and seminars to ensure growth in both professional organizations and specific areas.
  • Prepare self-evaluation form to self-assess areas of improvement and growth.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations with memberships, clinics, and state wide conferences.

 

School/Community Relations:

  • Articulate the district’s mission and goals in the area of athletics to community and solicit its support in realizing mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness HS feeder pattern community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Support athletic booster club activities.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervise and evaluate the performance of coaches and support staff throughout High School feeder pattern. 

 

MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIROMENTAL FACTORS:

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Athletic equipment, standard office equipment including computer and peripherals and other instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED); frequent driving (may operate school bus)
  • Posture: Sitting; prolonged standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping
  • Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; frequent physical movements associated with sport; moderate grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension and reaching
